Ask Claude about your projects

Here's a thing that happened while we were building the schedule export: AI assistants stopped being a separate app you visit. They're where a lot of people now start their working day — and they can connect to your tools.

So we made Mortar one of the tools. Mortar is now an MCP connector, which means you can plug it into Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor — anything that speaks MCP — and ask real questions about your actual studio:

  • "What's still unapproved in the Henderson project?"
  • "Which orders won't land before the October install?"
  • "What did we invoice this month, and what's outstanding?"

The answers come from your live Mortar data, not from the AI's imagination.

The safety story, because it matters more than the demo

Connecting an AI to your business data should make you ask hard questions. Here's how we answered them:

  • You connect it, per studio, with real OAuth — the same grant-and-revoke flow as connecting any serious app. Manage and revoke it in Settings.
  • Read-only by default. Asking questions requires nothing more.
  • Every write needs your approval. If you ask an assistant to change something, the action lands in Mortar's approval queue and waits for a human. You see exactly what it wants to do first.

How to try it

Settings → Connected apps → connect from your MCP client (the help article walks through Claude and ChatGPT step by step). Two minutes, revocable any time.

We think this is where design software is heading: not more AI inside the app, but your app available wherever you already think. First in the category, as far as we can tell — happy to be corrected.
