Worked example

Your client pays a $10,000 invoice by bank transfer. The total fee is $15 — capped, no matter how large the invoice. On a card, the same invoice is $330.30.

Australian studios: from 1 October 2026, card surcharging is banned in Australia, so card-fee pass-through to clients isn't available for AU merchants. Bank-transfer fee pass-through is unaffected.

Why pricing works this way

Flat per-seat pricing. Disclosed payment fees.

No project caps, no feature gates, no “contact sales” tiers. You pay for the people in your studio, and everything Mortar does is included from the first seat.

On payments, our position is simple: we take a small, published margin — 0.4% — and we tell you exactly what it is. Nobody else in this category prints their processing rates on a pricing page. We think the difference between a fee and a hidden fee is the disclosure.

What does Mortar cost?
One plan: $59 per user, per month. Unlimited projects, every feature included, no onboarding fee. Add or remove seats as your studio changes.
What are the payment fees?
Card payments are 3.3% + 30¢ (that's Stripe's 2.9% + 30¢ plus Mortar's 0.4%). Bank transfers are 0.4% with a $1 minimum, capped at $15 — so a $10,000 invoice costs $15 in fees, and so does a $40,000 one. Every rate, including our share, is published on this page.
Can I pass payment fees on to my clients?
Bank-transfer fee pass-through is available everywhere. Card-fee pass-through depends on where you operate — from 1 October 2026, card surcharging is banned in Australia, so it isn't available for AU studios.
What's the free trial?
Every account starts with a 14-day free trial, no credit card required. Run a real project through it — if it doesn't make your projects calmer and your budgets clearer, walk away.
Is there a setup or onboarding fee?
No. The price you see is the price you pay. Mortar is fully self-serve — most studios import their products and set up their first project in an afternoon.
Do my clients need an account?
No. Clients get a link to their portal where they can see project progress, budgets, and approvals — no login required.
Do you offer annual pricing?
We're working on it. For now, plans are billed monthly so you can stay flexible.
