Worked example

Your client pays a $10,000 invoice by bank transfer. The total fee is $15 — Stripe's $5 and Mortar's $10 — and it's capped there, no matter how large the invoice. On a card, the same invoice is $330.30.

On a $40,000 invoice by bank transfer: Mortar $15 · Studio Designer $25 · Materio $30.

Australian studios: from 1 October 2026, card surcharging is banned in Australia, so card-fee pass-through to clients isn't available for AU merchants. Bank-transfer fee pass-through is unaffected.

Why pricing works this way

One per-seat price. Disclosed payment fees.

No project caps, no “contact sales” tier, no feature ladder to climb. One price per seat, and every seat gets the whole workspace — never a paywall between you and your own project data.

On payments, our position is simple: we take a small, published margin — 0.4% on every rail, for every studio — and we tell you exactly what it is. Nobody else in this category prints their processing rates on a pricing page. We think the difference between a fee and a hidden fee is the disclosure.

What does Mortar cost?
$59 per user, per month — or $590 per user, per year, which is two months free. Unlimited projects, every feature included, no onboarding fee. Add or remove seats as your studio changes.
Do you have plans or tiers?
No. There's one plan and every seat gets every feature. The only thing that changes your bill is how many people are on it.
What are the payment fees?
Card payments are 3.3% + 30¢ (that's Stripe's 2.9% + 30¢ plus Mortar's 0.4%). Bank transfers are 0.4% with a $1 minimum, capped at $15 — so a $10,000 invoice costs $15 in fees, and so does a $40,000 one. The rate is the same for every studio, and every rate, including our share, is published on this page.
Can I pass payment fees on to my clients?
Bank-transfer fee pass-through is available everywhere. Card-fee pass-through depends on where you operate — from 1 October 2026, card surcharging is banned in Australia, so it isn't available for AU studios.
What counts as an import?
Each product URL Mortar fetches for you — a Pinterest pin, a page saved with the browser extension or bookmarklet, or an item added by URL. Every seat gets 1,000 a month, pooled across the studio, so a team of three shares 3,000.
What if we need more than 1,000 imports?
Imports are pooled across the studio, so adding a seat adds another 1,000 a month to the pool. If your volume is unusual, talk to us.
What's the free trial?
Every account starts with a 7-day free trial, no credit card required. Run a real project through it — if it doesn't make your projects calmer and your budgets clearer, walk away. When the trial ends, access pauses until you subscribe; there's no free plan, and nothing is charged until you choose to.
Is there a setup or onboarding fee?
No. The price you see is the price you pay. Mortar is fully self-serve — most studios import their products and set up their first project in an afternoon.
Do my clients need an account?
No. Clients get a link to their portal where they can see project progress, budgets, and approvals — no login required.
Do you offer annual pricing?
Yes — $590 per user, per year, which works out to two months free against monthly billing.
