What Cookies Are

Cookies are small text files a website stores in your browser. They let a site remember things — that you’re signed in, a choice you made, or whether you’ve visited before. Similar technologies such as local storage are covered by “cookies” here too.

How We Use Cookies

We use a small number of cookies: the ones the site and application need to function, analytics that help us understand what’s working so we can improve Mortar, and advertising measurement that tells us which of our ads bring people to Mortar. Analytics and advertising cookies only run after you choose “Accept all”. We never sell your data.

Types of Cookies

Essential (always on)

These make the site and application work. Without them you can’t sign in or stay signed in securely.

  • Authentication and session cookies — keep you signed in.
  • Security cookies — protect against fraud and abuse.
  • mortar_consent— remembers your cookie choice across mortar.design and the Mortar app for 180 days, so you aren’t asked twice.
  • mortar_click— if you arrive from one of our ads, a first-party record of which ad (no name or email), kept for 90 days so a later trial sign-up can be credited to that ad. See the Privacy Policy.

Analytics (optional)

These tell us how the site and product are used so we can make them better — aggregate trends and usage events, not profiles for sale. They only run after you accept.

  • PostHog— product and site analytics.
  • Google Analytics 4— site traffic and conversions, loaded through Google Tag Manager with Consent Mode (denied until you accept).

Advertising measurement (optional)

These tell us whether our ads lead to visits and sign-ups. They only run after you accept.

  • Google Ads— conversion measurement, through Google Tag Manager with Consent Mode.
  • Meta pixel— measures visits and sign-ups from our Facebook and Instagram ads.

Managing Cookies

  • Cookie consent banner: where consent applies, you can accept or decline non-essential cookies using the consent banner shown when you first visit, and change your choice at any time.
  • Your browser:every major browser lets you block or delete cookies. Blocking essential cookies will break sign-in — that’s simply how sessions work.
